Kevin returns to our fall conference after several years away that have kept him busy working in Redwood, California and running his company, Public Safety Training Consultants. He brings his wit and wisdom to the sessions he presents and speaks as one who works right along side of us. In addition he also heads a non-profit group, 9-1-1 Cares, that offers assistance and support for 911 professionals throughout the country. His segments are guaranteed to give you something to take home with you and we warmly welcome him to our 2007 fall conference.
RENEE KORREY & LYNDSEY LaLONDE– LIFE IS A BALANCING ACT
Renee has presented sessions at the fall conference in the past. This year she brings you a segment dealing with life from a moderation perspective. She promotes the belief that by rebalancing your life each aspect will be improved. This class is focused on the relationship between the personal and the professional and how living your lives well can be a win-win for you. You will learn ways to reduce/eliminate stress and leave with a better understanding of how the relationship between employer and employee can be improved.
KELLY RASMUSSEN – STEP AWAY FROM THE CONSOLE
Kelly comes to the conference with a background in dispatching. Most recently she was employed as the director of Eaton County Central Dispatch and is currently running her own training company. Success Communications offers training opportunities for workers in telecommunications. This session will cover how to take the time we need to think before we engage in communication. It will also deal with improving your radio, phone and interpersonal relationships in the dispatch center. You will enjoy spending some time with Kelly and will come away feeling upbeat after listening to her speak.
KELLY RASMUSSEN – STEP OUT FROM BEHIND THE DESK
Kelly brings her “upbeat” personality to this segment from her “Success Communications” company. This session brings you information on basic communications skills dealing with engaging your staff in order to build rapport and morale. It will look at your availability to your people, how to become more approachable and communication issues within the workplace.
RICH RYBICKI – MAINTENANCE OF THE MPSCS
Rich is a longtime member of APCO and is currently a Network Communication Center Technician for the state of Michigan. He will present an overview of maintaining the Michigan Public Safety Communication System (MPSCS) statewide radio system from the Network Communications Center perspective. You will gain knowledge of the system’s preventative maintenance, tools for diagnostics and remote monitoring. He will also include procedures for when problems occur and look at scenarios that have taken place with steps that can be taken to minimize outage times for MPSCS customers.
JIM O’LOUGHLIN – CREATING & MAINTAINING GIS FOR E-911
Jim was in the first class of Emergency Number Professionals (ENP’s) certified by NENA. During the past 30 years he has helped nearly 200 counties with their Enhanced and Wireless 911 implementations and currently serves as president of Allied Information Solutions. In this session he will share his experience in helping 911 directors work with other county departments and local units of government to fund the high quality GIS data required for Enhanced Wireless 911.

Joel is the VP of Research and Development for TCI, a division of PlantCML. He has been recognized as a leader in business and technology and has spoken at several conferences around the country. Being in the emergency services field for over 15 years, he understands the roles of each agency and the importance of a seamless integration with other platforms. His session will discuss the benefits and advantages of networked solutions, discuss future technologies and demonstrate how working together from agency to agency saves investments, resources and most importantly-lives.
JOHN HUNT & SHERRY LEVEQUE - PRIORITY ACCESS FOR PSAPs
John works with OnStar as an Emergency Services Solutions Manager. He is an Emergency Numbers Professional (ENP). Sherry comes to OnStar after working in the Communications Division at the Troy Police Department. They will present information on new technologies and programs that OnStar has will impact the communication centers, the types of information we will receive and how we do our job from day to day
ANDREA HINE – SUPERVISOR FORUM/TOPIC; Q/A
Once again Andrea will head up our supervisor forum and provide an opportunity to share problems, ideas and solutions with each other. She brings with her several years of experience with Ionia County Central Dispatch and will moderate the session so that the attendees will be able to interact with each other effectively. The focus of her topic will be quality assurance reviews and she looks forward to a lively discussion.
HARRIET MILLER-BROWN – LEGAL UPDATES FOR THE STATE
Harriet is the 9-1-1 Coordinator for the State of Michigan. She will provide information on legal issues and updates that will be affecting agencies within the state that provide emergency services to residents.
BOB CURRIER - Wireless VoIP & Going to Z
With the advent of converged and emerging technologies
comes increased complexity in the delivery of E 9-1-1 services. Public safety
policy discussions are ongoing to help the industry keep pace,
particularly from the perspective of making sure calls are correctly routed
(based on the caller's location) and automatic location information is provided
directly into the native 9-1-1 network. This presentation
will provide an update on these emerging policies.
DEE ANN SUMMERSETT/SANDY NIELSEN – CTO/MENTORING FORUM
Dee Ann and Sandy work together at Tuscola County Central Dispatch and will oversee a discussion group to address issues concerning the Communications Training Officers program. This discussion will include problems, learning methods, training tools and solutions that affect every CTO program. They look forward to being able to give you new ideas and a renewed enthusiasm for this essential telecommunications program.

JOE DEFORS – EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF MASS CASUALTY EVENTS
Joe is a co-founder and principal officer of Comprehensive Emergency Management Associates and is a retired Battalion Chief with 25 years of experience on the Lansing Fire Department. His session will deal with the impact that mass casualty events have. He will speak about the potential for confusion, loss of life and damage to critical infrastructure that can occur. These types of events are occurring with increasing frequency around the world and the old ways and policies will no longer work. He will seek to help you assemble first-response disciplines that must come together in these incidents.
MIKE HEATHFIELD – TEAMING WITH THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
Mike has been the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Grand Rapids. WCM’s are responsible for coordinating warnings and forecasts across County Warning Areas with emergency managers, the media and the public. He also serves as the NWS liaison for interactions with the State of Michigan agencies. He has been in the Air Force Reserve since 1979 and was activated for work during the Katrina, Ophelia and Rita hurricane responses. The NWS has added quite a bit of communications capability over the last few years to more efficiently correspond with the Emergency Management community. It has also added programs that should help communicate emergency products more clearly. This presentation will provide a broad overview of some of those changes including dispatcher training, Storm Based Warnings, Special Weather Statements, StormReady, Michigan 800 MHz Radio System, Michigan State E-Team Program and the Disaster Management Interoperability Services.
PAUL MCLAREN – NEW TECHNIQUES IN CAD & RMS FOR DATA SHARING
Paul is the current Director of Support Engineering for Positron. He has more than 25 years of experience in public safety including PSAP Manager, K-9 handler, Paramedic and Volunteer Firefighter. He has a broad perspective of emergency response with accomplishments in systems development, RF installations and systems integration. In his session you will see that as digital data becomes more prevalent, the opportunities for real time sharing are greatly enhanced. Multiple agencies may access centralized CAD and RMS systems for sharing of critical information while also providing segregated information areas for each of the independent agencies. Techniques will be examined for the most effective strategies for implementing such a regional system and what areas need to be considered for an agency joining such a system
